WORLD CUP 2010: Frank Lampard backing England to bring home the trophy

Frank Lampard believes England can go all the way in South Africa as long as the players are over their fear of penalty shootouts. [LNB]England have been knocked out of five major tournaments on penalties since 1990 and coach Fabio Capello revealed this week his stars have been practicing from 12 yards in order to avoid a sixth. [LNB]Chelsea midfielder Lampard, who missed his spot-kick as the Three Lions crashed to Portugal in Germany four years ago, is determined to exorcise the demons. [LNB] Eyes on the prize: Lampard is confident about England's chances of glory[LNB]He said: 'I think it has become a bit of an issue in the mind. No matter how well we have played in a match, when it comes down to penalties, you think: "Oh s*** here we go again."[LNB] 'Once you've got that mindset, it is hard to get out of it. That's why the Germans are so good at it. They get to penalties and they have a confidence, an arrogance I suppose that they are going to win. 'England need more of that self-belief.' [LNB]Lampard, with 20 goals in 77 internationals, is confident England can bring home the prize if they break their hoodoo especially as Capello is the man in charge. [LNB] Denied: Portugal keeper Ricardo saves from Lampard in Gelsenkirchen[LNB]'I think he's brilliant,' 32-year-old Lampard added in GQ Sport magazine. 'He is very straight, very firm. You only have to look at what he has achieved in his career and at the way England are performing now to realise that this is the right way for us to go. [LNB]'There is definitely a self-belief there. I hate to sound like I'm getting carried away, but there is a new-found confidence about the team.[LNB] 'Before, we knew we were good players, but I don't think we quite believed in ourselves as a squad. [LNB]'Now, we can lose what might be considered three or four key players and bring in others who do just as good a job and get us a result.'
