Wolves weigh up striker move

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has admitted he could further strengthen his attacking options this summer. The Premier League new boys have already splashed out £6.5million on Republic of Ireland international Kevin Doyle, and have Chris Iwelumo, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Andy Keogh and Sam Vokes on their books, but that may not be enough. Iwelumo suffered a broken foot on Friday during the club's pre-season tour of Australia and McCarthy has revealed that he may look to bring in cover for the stricken Scottish star. "I'm happy with what I've got up front, but that's not to say I won't do something else, if there was something available," he told the Express and Star. "We've got to have seven substitutes as well this season and we must have competition for places. "We saw how thin on the ground we were last season when we had to take Marlon Harewood on loan and we can't allow that to happen again. "Once the season starts, we can't take anyone on loan. I want as big a squad as I can possibly get." McCarthy is also hoping to bolster his defensive unit with the acquisition of Chelsea youngster Michael Mancienne on a season-long loan deal, but he admits that the success of that deal lies out of his hands. "He is a good lad and I've asked the question but it's not down to us," he added. "I would have taken him at the drop of a hat and still would, but it's down to Chelsea."
