Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has questioned Manchester City's title credentials despite their good start to the season.[LNB] City currently lie second in the Premier League table just four points behind champions Chelsea and defeated the West Londoners 1-0 at Eastlands last month.[LNB]Roberto Mancini splashed the cash on new talent during the summer but despite their strength in depth, Wilkins does not believe they will be challenging come May.[LNB]"It will always be Manchester United, it will always be Arsenal," he said in the Independent.[LNB]"They will always be there or thereabouts. Yes, City, as fabulous a group of footballers as they have, have got to gel as a unit. [LNB]"They are getting results and good luck to them as well, but it's never easy when you are just pulling guys together and hoping that it will come together. [LNB]"It's very tough and Roberto (Mancini) is doing a good job for them as well."[LNB]Chelsea beat title rivals Arsenal 2-0 at the weekend and look in good shape to retain their status as top-flight champions under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti.[LNB]Michael Essien is enjoying an injury-free run in the first-team this term after frustrations in recent years.[LNB]The 27-year-old Ghanaian midfielder believes City made wise choices in the transfer market this summer, but echoes Wilkins' sentiments regarding their stamina.[LNB]"They've made good signings this season," Essien added. [LNB]"They will be up for it. I don't know if they will have the stamina but they've got the players to do the job."
