Why does rich John Terry seem to be hawking himself around so blatantly?

On the pitch, as he demonstrated again here at Upton Park, John Terry is a near perfect captain and a near perfect centre-half. [LNB]He is tough as well as talented; a world-class player who leads by example and, more often than not, leads his team to victory.[LNB]But the patience of those who have entrusted Terry with the England armband he claims to wear with such pride is being seriously tested.[LNB]They are struggling to understand why Terry, when he is paid so handsomely by Chelsea, seems to be hawking himself around in such an unsavoury fashion, and they are starting to wonder how much longer they can sit back and do nothing when Terry appears to be treating the positions he holds with so little regard.[LNB] Defensive warrior: As a defender and captain, John Terry is up there with the best[LNB] Right now Carlo Ancelotti and Fabio Capello have no desire to strip Terry of the captaincy of club and country, not least because of the potential disruption it could cause in this, the most important of seasons for Chelsea and England.[LNB]But there are rumblings of discontent over the way Terry appears to be conducting himself, and the denials that are hastily issued when he suddenly finds himself the subject of embarrassing newspaper revelations are proving less than convincing.[LNB]When Sportsmail revealed how Riviera Entertainment Limited had circulated an email declaring that 'John Terry is available to create effective brand awareness and endorse products and services globally', senior figures at the Football Association and Stamford Bridge were horrified.[LNB]It was hugely embarrassing for Terry, not least because of the way it boasted to potentially interested parties that 'John Terry is: British sporting hero; England's football captain; World Cup 2018 ambassador; Football icon; Dad of the year 2008; Voted as one of the World's most influencial (sic) people'.[LNB]Terry distanced himself from the controversy immediately, insisting he had not given his permission for the email to be circulated, even though it came from an Enfield-based marketing company he had enlisted to represent him.[LNB]Under the spotlight: Chelsea captain John Terry[LNB] Yesterday's Sunday newspaper expose had much the same impact at the FA and, indeed, at Chelsea.[LNB]A Stamford Bridge spokesman issued the denial, and Ancelotti came out in support of his skipper after seeing his side snatch a point against West Ham with a tho-roughly undeserved penalty.[LNB]'It is not true,' said the Italian before insisting that John Terry had done 'nothing wrong'.[LNB]Privately, though, the Chelsea manager will take a dim view of the episode. [LNB]Chelsea were distinctly unimpressed with the fact that the original Riviera email used an image of Terry in a Chelsea shirt and they will not be happy with the details of yesterday's report. If nothing else it amounts to a major security breach.[LNB]Other issues are said to be concerning the FA. Capello, it is understood, is not overly impressed with Terry's decision to take on a highly lucrative exclusive newspaper column that first appeared after the World Cup draw in South Africa earlier this month.[LNB]Sportsmail can reveal that the England manager's feelings were communicated to Terry, who had told officials at Wembley and, indeed, at this newspaper, that he would discuss issues only regarding Chelsea.[LNB]There is also some concern over whether Terry is among a few players believed to have booked accommodation for their families in Sun City during the World Cup.[LNB]It is a difficult issue for the FA when they have effectively washed their hands of any responsibility for England's infamous WAGS. It is hard then to tell them where they must stay.[LNB]But Capello has suggested they should avoid staying near the media, and Sun City, as the closest place to the Rustenberg hotel Capello has identified as his team base, is where the England media will be based. Cue another WAGS circus precisely what Capello hoped to avoid.[LNB] Captain marvel? Some are beginning to question Terry's captain credentials[LNB] If Terry has booked accommodation there for his wife, Toni, and their children, he might have to be told to make alternative arrangements.[LNB]But it is the other stuff that is really worrying high-ranking officials at the FA and Chelsea, amid fears that there will be more revelations; more evidence to suggest that Terry is either getting some very bad advice or self-destructing.[LNB]These sorts of things certainly didn't happen to Terry when he was still with his agent of many years, the former Chelsea kitman and thoroughly decent Aaron Lincoln.[LNB]Yesterday was extraordinary from the slightly embarrassed look of the Chelsea spokesman who had to issue the statement to the question to which Ancelotti had to respond in his post-match press conference.[LNB]How exactly did he feel about his captain apparently being paid £10,000 in cash for showing people around the training ground while he was enjoying his lunch at a nearby table?[LNB]Ancelotti responded the way one would expect him to, by putting the club's interests first. The danger of that, however, is that Terry will think he is untouchable.[LNB]Terry has done well to rise above the embarrassment caused by the allegations of drug dealing and shoplifting by members of his family. But, if he is chasing the money as flagrantly as the evidence would suggest, he might discover he is not quite as bombproof as he thinks.[LNB] CHELSEA FC
