What could Mourinho do with 100 million at Chelsea?

Jose Mourinho dropped the strongest hint yet that he may leave Real Madrid at the end of the season following their Champions League semi-final defeat against Borussia Dortmund and although it's far from certain where the 'special one' will be managing next season my money is on a spectacular return to Stamford Bridge.

But if Jose does return to Chelsea, the club where he was unceremoniously sacked after delivering back-to-back Premier League titles, he'll have work to do.

The clubs current crop of players isn't bad, far from it in fact with the majority of the squad being present for Chelsea's Champions League triumph last season. But it can certainly be improved, and that's what I'm going to look at in this article.

If Mourinho is handed the £100 million transfer kitty as reported by various sports sites who should he buy?

Radamel Falcao is still very much in the frame for a move to London, with Roman Abramovich a known admirer of the Columbian powerhouse. The fee for the Atletico Madrid player is a reported £50 million although this could be lowered with Fernando Torres going the other way in a player plus cash deal.

Another player Abramovich has been looking at extensively is Bayern Leverkusen star Andre Schurrle, the wide man would give Chelsea natural width which they have lacked in recent seasons.

The two players mentioned above are in line for moves to Chelsea because of Abramovich, not Mourinho so don't be surprised if there are more comings and goings at the club.

After his performances in the Champions League and Bundesliga this season it would be hard to ignore Robert Lewandowski. The player is a reported target for Bayern Munich and Manchester United but with Dortmund already losing Mario Gotze to their main rivals in Germany it's hard to see them letting the polish striker head over to the Allianz Arena too. The player fits Mourinho's profile for a striker in the Premier League, strong, physical and has the ability to score goals with his feet and his head.

But what about Ronaldo? Jose and Cristiano have a strong relationship and bringing the Portuguese forward back to the Premier League with Chelsea would be the ultimate statement of intent. The deal would cost astronomical amounts of money, but fortunately for Mourinho Chelsea are one of the few clubs in world football who could bankroll such a deal.

In the midfield department Jose could bring in long-term target Marouane Fellaini to help ease the expected departure of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. This would help add some steel to the middle of the park and add to Chelsea already substantial goal threat.

Southampton's young left-back Luke Shaw is also reportedly being watched by Chelsea, with Ashley Cole not getting any younger and no natural replacement for that position within the club.

Whether or not Jose will return to the Bridge, only time will tell. But you can be sure there will be money to spend, large amounts of it, if he does.

The fans want him to come back, and it appears Mourinho wants to go back. All that needs to be done is for Abramovich to pick up the phone and give Jose the nod.
