Werder Bremen confident Pizarro will leave Chelsea for the Bundesliga
Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf has still not given up hope of bringing Claudio Pizarro to the club this summer.
The northern Germany side, who were beaten in their Bundesliga opener by Eintracht Frankfurt, are keen to avoid a repeat of last season, when they struggled to finish inside the top 10.
A player like Pizarro could provide the boost they need. He scored 28 goals for Werder while on loan from Chelsea last term, including five in the UEFA Cup and four on the way to victory in the German Cup.
Bremen are now back in talks with Chelsea about signing the 30-year-old on a permanent deal.
'I hope we get Pizarro,' said Schaaf. 'Basically, we are considering where we can strengthen our team and what players can help us with their quality in the long term.'
However, the main issue blocking the transfer is the size of the fee as Bremen feel they are being priced out of the market.
'We can only do what we can afford,' added Schaaf in the Bild newspaper. 'We are doing all we can, but if we cannot sign any more players, then I cannot change it either.'
