We don't need new signings to succeed, says new Chelsea boss Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti is putting his faith in the current Chelsea squad tobecome champions by ruling out any additions before the transfer windowslams shut. Chelsea have been linked with a string of high-profile players inrecent weeks, but Ancelotti ended all the speculation last night, closing the door on any business before the transfer deadline at theend of the month. That would leave Yuri Zhirkov, Dean Sturridge and reserve goalkeeper Ross Turnbull as the club's only summer dealings, a massive gamble but one which Ancelotti is prepared to take. 'There is a week left but the book is closed,' said Ancelotti, who has his first taste of a west London derby with this afternoon's clash against Fulham. 'We are not interested in any more players.' The Italian insisted there was no truth in the suggestion that he had been denied funds to strengthen the squad and said 'one small step' was all that was needed for Chelsea to become title winners at home and in Europe. 'We take decisions together,' added Ancelotti. 'If we decided we needed reinforcements the club would support me and provide the money, no problem. But this is a very competitive squad in all positions - defence, midfield and attack.' Asked why the current squad had a better chance than last season of winning the big prizes despite no further reinforcements, he replied: 'We were very close with these same players. If we manage one little step and pay attention to detail, with a little bit of luck we can do it.' Ancelotti, one of only six people to win the Champions League both as a coach and a player, hopes his own experience will provide the missing link. 'I will try 100 per cent to add my qualities to the team. To make the step, you have to have no fear and play your game away from home as well as at home.' Ancelotti revealed that Joe Cole, whose cruciate ligament knee injury has kept him out since January for both club and country, has just resumed training and that Deco, whose future has been in doubt at the start of the season, would not be leaving the club.
