Wayne Rooney eyes Champions League final to make up for Wembley ban
Wayne Rooney has set his sights on making up for his Wembley misery by helping Manchester United secure another visit for the Champions League final. [LNB]The United star is eyeing a semi-final showdown - probably against German side Schalke - after they overcame Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Tuesday night to seal a 3-1 aggregate win. [LNB] Now Rooney, who is banned from Saturday's FA Cup semi-final clash with rivals Manchester City, is desperate to guide his team to the final in London on May 28. [LNB]'I was happy with my own performance, delighted we got through, and I feel we've got a good chance of progressing to the final now. [LNB] 'I'm delighted with my form. As everyone clearly knows, it's been a tough season for me but from the turn of the year I've been really pleased with my form. [LNB] Anger: Rooney was banned for swearing into the camera at Upton Park[LNB] 'I've started to score goals again. I'm playing a different position now and I'm really enjoying it. I'm getting on the ball, getting involved, and I feel I can dictate the game from the position I'm playing. I'm really pleased with my form.' [LNB]Rooney is suspended from the Manchester derby after he was punished for swearing into a TV camera during his hat-trick celebrations at West Ham earlier this month. [LNB]Despite questioning the severity of the ban, Rooney insists he has now put the episode behind him. He added: 'I didn't realise what I'd done. It was just emotions, it was a release if you like of scoring the three goals to get us back in the game. Of course it was wrong of me to do, but Iaccept my punishment and you just have to move on. 'Hopefully the boys can pull through for me on Saturday and hopefully get to that FA Cup final.' [LNB]Rooney also praised veteran United star Ryan Giggs after yet another masterclass against Chelsea. The Welshman set up both the goals for Javier Hernandez and Ji-sung Park. [LNB]Rooney said: 'What he has done at Man United, what he does for the younger players at the club is absolutely fantastic. For me, he's a genius and don't think it will be long before we call him Sir Ryan. [LNB]'Over the course of the season the manager has put a lot of the younger players in and it has worked. The likes of Chris Smalling, Javier Hernandez and Darron Gibson have done great and we've managed to get the results we needed. The future looks good for us. We're definitely on the up.'
