Walcott in the picture to make Blues switch

Reports this morning suggest that Chelsea are closely monitoring the contract situation between Theo Walcott and Arsenal with just one season remaining on his current deal. The report reveals that both Chelsea and Liverpool now have an interest in the 26-year-old England international who has found opportunities scarce at the Emirates this season.

Matt Hughes of the Times has revealed the interest from Chelsea who last tested the resolve of Arsenal when his last contract entered its final twelve months but the forward chose to sign a new deal.

Walcott is known for his electric pace, balance and technique but a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament forced the player out for six months and he now finds it difficult to get games. With Sanchez, Ozil, Cazorla and Giroud performing well this year and it’s going to be difficult fitting back in to a squad that has moved on. Walcott has made just 8 league appearances this season and needs the games to return to get the required match fitness which leaves him in a difficult situation.

Chelsea, whilst being a club that you expect to win trophies and attract big names may not be the answer for a player that needs to be an integral part of a team as a player at his peak in terms of age and not a bit part as he may be at a club like Chelsea. That said, the chance to play for Chelsea could be the opportunity he needs to change things around and prove himself as the dangerous player that can tear defences apart that he always promised to be.

Liverpool could also be an option and being part of a club with huge tradition and legacy that is once more breaking back into the top-flight of the English game.Time will tell but the player will certainly have plenty to consider as the clock ticks down on his current contract.
