We all under performed

If under pressure Andre Villas-Boas is to survive as Chelsea boss he is going to have to start winning games - and soon.

The poor display in the 1-0 defeat against WBA saw Villas-Boas concede that the players and management "failed to perform".

He said: "Today, the pressure was piled on me."

But the Portuguese remains defiant.

"If I did not believe I was the right man for the job, I would not have come," he bullishly added.

"Every single player was not outstanding except Ashley Cole. We all under performed."

Asked about his project to turn the Blues around in the coming seasons, Villas-Boas admitted that time was running out: "We have to win games and solve the present.

We tried to win the game today, that's why I brought on Torres.

Now we have three days until Birmingham ( in the FA Cup replay).

"Everyone expects more from us. This was far too bad ( a performance). the fans were excellent today.

"We had good chances today against their keeper. But WBA were superior, they had extra edge and emotion than us.

"I take full responsibility today. full credit to them. we constructed nothing.

"Had we scored, we would have got the motivation and desire. WBA had the intensity- we were not good enough. "We are stuck in fifth position and three points behind Arsenal and Newcastle are getting close to us.

"That puts real perspective in where we are.

"We have to improve 300 percent for Tuesday."

Asked if he felt he needed a public vote of confidence from Roman Abramovich, " he said: "Idon't need the backing of the owner. I didn't ask the owner if I will be managing Chelsea at Birmingham on Tuesday.
