United set to escape FIFA action over transfer of Fiorentina teen Fornasier

Manchester United are poised to avoid a FIFA probe into their attempts to sign Italian teenager Michele Fornasier from Fiorentina.[LNB]The Serie A club have failed to supply sufficient evidence to the world's governing body to support their complaint against the English champions. [LNB]Fiorentina contacted FIFA last month to register their grievance against United and followed up that initial contact by supplying documentation to back their claims that the Premier League giants 'poached' the 16-year-old. [LNB] Transfer ban: It was widely thought that United could face a similar sanction to Chelsea after their recruitment of Lens teenager Gael Kakuta (above)[LNB] With Chelsea preparing to appeal against their ban on registering new players until Jan 2011 in relation to their recruitment of Lens teenager Gael Kakuta, it was widely thought that United could face a similar sanction. [LNB]Teenage signing: Federico Macheda joined Manchester United from Italian side Lazio aged 16[LNB]United, who deny any wrongdoing in relation to their potential signing of Fornasier, have also vehemently ruled out any suggestion of malpractice in their moves for Le Havre teenager Paul Pogba and Empoli youngster Alberto Massacci. [LNB]Sportsmail understands that that Fornasier was not tied to a binding contract at Fiorentina and FIFA has now confirmed that - barring further correspondence from the Italians - it has found no grounds on which to base an investigation. [LNB]A FIFA spokesman told the Daily Telegraph: 'We can confirm that we were contacted by Fiorentina with regard to the potential transfer of the player, Michele Fornasier, to Manchester United.[LNB] 'However, no formal investigation has been opened since the documentation currently in our possession, from a purely formal point of view, is not apt to sustain such action.'
