Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ross Turnbull. The 24-year-old joins on a free transfer after his contract with Middlesbrough expired at the end of last season. He signs a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge, joining Petr Cech and Hilario as goalkeepers in the first-team squad. Portuguese player Hilario today signed a new two-year contract that runs until 2011. Turnbull spent much of last season as Boro's first-choice keeper following the departure of Mark Schwarzer to Fulham. And he is already a friend to Chelsea, having conceded seven goals in two fixtures against the Blues last season. In total, Ross made 29 appearances for Middlesbrough, in addition to 67 for various clubs on loan. He is expected to be joined at Stamford Bridge by Yuri Zhirkov, signing from CSKA Moscow in the next few days, and former Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge.
