Transfer Round Up 15th June; Chelsea eye Lewandowski and Arsenal target Villa

15 June 2013 16:14

We start with Robert Lewandowski of Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea has thrown their hat into the ring and has decided to make a play for the 24-year-old. Dortmund has made it clear that they will not sell Lewandowski to Bayern Munich under any condition, but they did not rule out anyone else. Up to this point, Chelsea had not considered going after the Polish international striker with any vigor but after giving up on Edinson Cavani, Lewandowski has come to the forefront. Mourinho looks to off load Fernando Torres and Demba Ba this summer and will need a strong up front presence to replace both players. Lewandowski looks to still have the attention of both Manchester United and PSG. I don’t rule out Arsenal making a play for the star either, they have money to spend and need a quality striker to lead the Gunners scoring attack. The winners here are Lewandowski and Dortmund; both stand to make lots of money.

Speaking of Arsenal, they were rumored to be after David Villa this summer but Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has come out to dispel any and all rumors that Villa is expected to stay with Barca. He said: "Until somebody says the opposite, David Villa will remain a Barcelona player." Now that statement can be taken many ways and it really wasn’t a ringing endorsement for the 31-year-old striker so there may be more to come on the Villa front. Arsenal is in need of a world class striker so we will see if they ignore Rosell and continue their pursuit.

Luka Modric has spoken up and proclaimed that Gareth Bale would fit in great at Real Madrid. "Bale would fit perfectly, we could really use him. He is the type of player who will help us take a step forward," Modric told the Spanish newspaper Marca "He would give the team another dimension; His shot, his strength, his speed, his offensive power." Modric and Bale were teammates at Tottenham from 2008 to 2012 when Modric left Spurs for a £30 transfer fee. Real Madrid have been after Bale for quite some time but they may also be getting ready for the impending departure of Cristiano Ronald so we shall see.
