Transfer News: Chelsea look to hijack Bent deal; Tevez set for Man City exit

Yesterday came the surprising news that Aston Villa were closing in on a club-record deal to sign Sunderland striker Darren Bent.

The England man is keen on a move to Villa Park but another Premier League club could be set to enter the race to sign him if reports this morning are to be believed.

Apparently Carlo Ancelotti is considering making a big-money move for Bent in a bid to end Chelsea's goal-scoring problems. The club would need to match Villa's offer which is believed to be around £20 million, potentially rising to £24m.

Despite putting an end to rumours about an Eastlands exit, Carlos Tevez is once again the subject of serious speculation today.

Real Madrid are in desperate need of a striker and are keen on bringing in the Argentine forward on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a £33m permanent move in the summer.

Whether Roberto Mancini will reject Jose Mourniho's offer or decide to cash-in is not yet known.

John Carew could move to West Ham if Aston Villa sign Darren Bent.

Chelsea hope to secure Benfica defender David Luiz for £22m this month.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is interested in Villa duo Ashley Young and Stewart Downing.

Bolton are close to a deal for Middlesbrough central defender David Wheater.
