Transfer News - Chelsea close in on Neymar; Arsenal and Fulham want Given

19 August 2010 07:59
Chelsea have reportedly offered Brazilian teenager Neymar a five-year deal, after his contract talks with Santos stalled.

The 18-year-old has a release clause in his contract, but Chelsea would have to fork out nearly £30 million in transfer fees to get him, and £50,000/week in wages.

Neymar has been advised by Pele to stay in Brazil, who thinks a move to England this early in his career would be counter-productive.

The creative midfielder was overlooked for Brazil's World Cup squad, but made his full debut in a recent friendly against the USA - starting the match and scoring a debut goal in a 2-0 win.

Meanwhile, Shay Given is set to walk out on Manchester City, according to a report in the Daily Express.

With Joe Hart set to start in tonight's Europa League qualifier against FC Timisoara, Given is exploring possible loan moves to avoid sitting on the bench.

Fulham and Arsenal are thought to be leading the race for his signature.

Finally, Roy Hodgson will not sell Javier Mascherano for less than £25m, reports the Guardian.

Rafa Benitez wants the Argentine to follow him to Inter Milan, but Hodgson says nothing less than full asking price will do.
