‘The Special One’ returns to Stamford Bridge for his second stint in charge of Chelsea surrounded by immediate expectation and optimism. The London club kick off their campaign in six days time against newly promoted Hull City Tigers and are being heavily backed by the bookmakers to lift the title under Mourinho.
David Moyes has insisted that he has not fallen out with Wayne Rooney and has ruled out a move to the current Europa champions. Chelsea boasts arguably the strongest midfield in the division and just currently lack a top class forward for the new campaign. Having missed out on Ramadel Falcao and Edinson Cavani, Mourinho is doing all he can in trying to persuade the England striker to join his new-look Chelsea side.
However, it seems like Man United are reluctant to sell to a clear title-rival this season so what other players could be viable for Chelsea before the window closes at the end of the month. Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala have been forced to put every player up for sale in order to half their budget due to a financial crisis.
Mourinho has already made an enquiry for Anzhi striker Samuel Eto’o who is thought to be available for just £5m as a back-up plan if Rooney doesn’t join him in London this window. The Cameroon striker has also voiced his concern at the club’s turmoil and wants to be given a free transfer away from the Russian club.
Anzhi also contain Lacina Traore who is also available for a cut-price and at the age of 23 has plenty of time to develop as a footballer. Many England fans may recognise the forward from the Europa competition last season where he featured in over 12 games including qualifiers. He stands at a frightening 6ft 8ins but only scored once with his head last season which shows the ability the striker has at his feet and could adapt to Chelsea’s style of play.
