Terry wants perfect send-off
28 May 2009 - 08:41:30
Captain John Terry wants Chelsea to win the FA Cup for departing coach Guus Hiddink.
Terry claims the Blues are totally focused on the Wembley meeting with Everton despite the match marking the end of Hiddink's short spell as manager.
Chelsea could announce a new manager as early as next week - with AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti the likely candidate - but Terry is not looking past Saturday's showpiece.
"We are not thinking about the new regime at all," he said. "We don't want to disrespect the current manager and so we are fully focused on the FA Cup.
"I am sure there maybe a few chats after the game with the people upstairs, but they are the ones making the decisions.
"As a group of players, we get on with it and we do what we can on the pitch.
"We will get this game out the way and go away in the summer. I am sure there will be loads of speculation in the summer.
"For us, as players, it would be lovely to win the cup, go away and not read anything and not hear anything about Chelsea or football.
"It is massively important to win some silverware because if we went another season without winning something it would be a bad couple of seasons.
"We owe it to ourselves as a group of players and to our fans, who have supported us through thick and thin during difficult times over the last couple of years.
"We should be winning trophies with the players we have got."
