    Terry still haunted by miss

    22 Jul 2008 - 08:18:24

Chelsea captain John Terry is hoping the new regime in place at the club can help 'flush away' the memories of last season's Champions League heartache.

The Blues skipper has admitted he is still haunted by his penalty miss which allowed Manchester United be crowned European champions after a dramatic final meeting in Moscow in May.

Terry's costly slip in the penalty shoot-out denied Chelsea a first ever European crown, but the England defender believes the change in management which has brought Luiz Felipe Scolari to Stamford Bridge can help erase last season's painful memories.

"Every morning I wake up and it is the first thing on my mind, I still think of it and I am still disappointed by it," he told the club's official website.

"I'm a big man, a big character and it's down to me to deal with that.

"The games with England at the end of the season helped to flush it away a little bit, but the success that we can hopefully bring with the new manager and players can hopefully flush away those bad memories completely."

Meanwhile, Terry has warned the rest of their rivals that Chelsea are determined to win silverware this season after last year's disappointments.

He added: "After the disappointments of last season, we are very determined to win the Premier League and as many trophies as possible.

"We see the hunger in the new manager and the team he has brought in, and it is on the minds of everybody to do exactly the same."
