Terry set to issue statement
21 Jul 2009 - 08:29:25
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that John Terry will release a statement this week to confirm that he is staying at Stamford Bridge.
The England international has been linked with a big-money move to Manchester City this summer even though last season's FA Cup winners have repeatedly said their club captain is not for sale.
However, Ancelotti was quoted in the Daily Telegraph as saying: "I think that in one week nobody will have a problem about John Terry.
"John wants to stay in Chelsea and Chelsea want John Terry to be captain for many more years.
"There is no problem. Manchester City only want to improve and buy the best players.
"It is normal because he is a great player and all teams want to buy a great player. These are normal questions but he stays in the same team because he is Chelsea's captain and it is impossible for us to sell John Terry."
Meanwhile, midfielder Michael Ballack has picked up a toe injury which has forced the Germany international to fly back to England from the club's pre-season tour of North America for treatment.
Ballack featured in Chelsea's 2-0 win against Seattle Sounders on Saturday, but is expected to be sidelined until next month's friendly against Reading.
