    Terry seeks Jose assurance

    24 Jan 2007 - 07:35:50

Jose Mourinho has revealed that John Terry is close to signing a new long-term contract but the club captain sought assurances from the Chelsea boss that he would be at Stamford Bridge next season before signing.

The Blues and England skipper is reportedly set to put pen to paper on a deal worth £150,000 per week.

But before he agreed terms with the champions, Mourinho claims his defensive talisman wanted assurances as to the Portuguese coach's own future at the club.

"John is almost signing a new contract. If he hasn't then he is doing that in the next few days," said Mourinho.

"But, when he says it would be very difficult for him to play with another manager in his career and he would like to do it with me until the end of his career, it is because he accepts my philosophy as his.

"He feels comfortable with the work we do."

When asked what he replied to Terry about the chances of him remaining at Stamford Bridge next season, Mourinho added: "Yes. My answer was 'I think so'."

Meanwhile, Terry has confirmed that he has returned to full training after back surgery but is still some way short of making a return to the first team.

"I've been needing more power in my calf to join properly, but I have started full training again," he said.

"I've managed to get some power back now. I still need to improve it and it's been taking longer than we thought. But I am delighted to be back involved with the lads."
