Skipper John Terry has accepted the blame for Chelsea's midweek league defeat at the hands of Everton.
Terry was blamed for both of the goals his side conceded in a 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
He was subsequently given time off by manager Carlo Ancelotti to tend to the problems in his private life which led to his recent sacking as England captain.
Terry missed Saturday's 4-1 FA Cup fifth-round victory over Cardiff City, but used his programme notes to admit that he was at fault for the surprise defeat on Merseyside.
He wrote: "We went to Everton and suffered a bad defeat. On a personal note, both Everton goals were my fault. I'm big enough to take responsibility for that.
"Also I know no-one went over to our fans on the far side of the ground so, on behalf of everyone there, I apologise for that.
"From now on we'll make sure players come over to you, whatever the score. Once again we are really sorry."
