Terry prioritises Euro glory
28 Aug 2009 - 09:56:40
Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed that his main focus this season will be helping Carlo Ancelotti's side win the Champions League.
The Blues have been close to clinching Europe's premier competition on several occasions in recent years, particularly in 2008 when Terry missed a penalty in the Final shoot-out defeat to Manchester United.
Terry, who was linked with a switch to Manchester City throughout the summer, said: "What I try to do is come into training and work very hard every day and to be able to get my hands on the Champions League trophy is enough motivation for me.
"That's something I'm aiming to do with Chelsea."
Meanwhile, chief executive Peter Kenyon does not think there will be any more new arrivals at Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes next week.
Ancelotti has signed Nemanja Matic, Daniel Sturridge, Ross Turnbull and Yuri Zhirkov since the end of last term, and Kenyon believes that will be the end of the club's summer spending.
He said: "We've concentrated on re-signing the players we wanted and that's been really successful.
"We've had a great start to the season and Carlo Ancelotti, before he joined, was very happy with the squad, and we've strengthened that with Yuri Zhirkov.
"We're happy with the squad and we believe this year we can go on further."
