Terry plays down injury scare
13 May 2010 - 13:59:17
Chelsea skipper John Terry has declared himself "100 per cent fit" for Saturday's FA Cup Final against Portsmouth despite a dramatic foot injury scare.
Terry was reported to be set to miss the Wembley showpiece and also England's World Cup campaign after a training-ground accident on Wednesday afternoon left him wearing a protective cast.
However, suggestions that the former England captain could miss the tournament in South Africa with a possible broken metatarsal bone were swiftly allayed following hospital scans.
Terry will now definitely lead the Blues out against Portsmouth as they go in search of a first ever league and cup double.
"I was just running back to goal and Daniel Sturridge fell on top of me. My foot was caught underneath," he explained.
"I thought it was quite bad initially. But once I had the scan, it was just bruising and today there was no problem at all.
"I was delighted when I got the scan results and there was no ligament damage or anything like that. It was just a bit of bruising inside the foot so no problem at all.
"I felt good today, I felt nothing at all, passing the ball or striking the ball."
