Ten Cate confirms Terry spat
27 Feb 2008 - 08:36:46
Chelsea first-team coach Henk Ten Cate has admitted that he had a major disagreement with Blues captain John Terry the day before the Carling Cup final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
The duo clashed during training, with Terry apparently upset by manager Avram Grant's decision not to confirm his starting line-up until a couple of hours before kick-off at Wembley.
Dutchman Ten Cate told The Sun: "We are both kind of emotional, but we respect each other fully.
"We just had a discussion about the intensity of the training session. That's a normal part of the game. There have been a few F-words, no doubt, but that's common in England.
"There was a special tension on Saturday. John wanted to have even more intensity in training, but I didn't agree as we were just one day before the match."
Terry had earlier tried to quell the storm surrounding his side's 2-1 defeat by Spurs and the row over the selection policy favoured by Grant.
He commented: "The manager keeps it all very close to his chest. None of us knew until Sunday and that is how it has been in every game.
"So there was no change or excuse. That is the way it has got to be. It keeps everyone on their toes and as a group of players we have to deal with it."
