Taylor earns last-gasp point
Carlo Ancelotti's new-look Chelsea looked anything but challengers for next season's Barclays Premier League title as they threw away victory in a 2-2 draw against Newcastle.
In what could be his final home game in charge, Ancelotti's team selection very much appeared to have the new campaign in mind and it looked promising when Branislav Ivanovic scored inside two minutes.
Chelsea made a flying start and were ahead inside two minutes when Ivanovic rammed home from close range following Fernando Torres' flick.
The lead was short-lived, though, as Alan Pardew's men drew level eight minutes later when Ryan Taylor's low free-kick deflected off Gutierrez and wrong-footed Petr Cech.
That equaliser gave Newcastle a foot-hold in the game and it became a tight affair with neither side threatening to add to their tally. It did not get much better after the break either with Torres' blocked effort representing Chelsea's best chance, while Gutierrez forced Cech into a smart low save at the other end.
The pressure eventually told with eight minutes remaining when Alex headed home Frank Lampard's free-kick and it looked as if Chelsea would take the three points. Steven Taylor had other ideas, though, when Newcastle levelled for the second time when he headed home a loose ball deep into injury time.
