Shaun Wright-Phillips has insisted he made the right decision when he swapped Manchester City for Chelsea in a £21million deal last summer.

The move has seen the 24-year-old slip from being the key player in City's starting line-up to an occasional substitute with the champions, but he is still confident the transfer will benefit his career in the long run.

"People talk about the price, but the price has never bothered me," the England winger told the Daily Mirror.

"The two clubs made the price. It was down to them to do the business side and the rest is down to me to play football.

"I've no regrets. I believe it was the right thing to do. It's given me opportunities to better myself and more chances of winning, challenging and going for the Premiership.

"It's a short career and you never know when it's going to end so when the chance came I had to take it."

Wright-Phillips has started just six Premiership games for Chelsea this term, but sees no reason why he cannot follow the example of the man keeping him out of the team and establish himself as an important member of Jose Mourinho's side.

"Joe Cole was in the same position last year, put his head down and worked really hard," he continued.

"That's what I've got to do and as long as you work hard, keep learning, then the ability doesn't go away and that's the main thing.

"When I came to the club I knew it would be like starting all over again anyway because of the standard of players at Chelsea."
