Sven: Didier will choose whether to play

Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba looks increasingly likely to be fit for his team's World Cup opener against Portugal on Tuesday. Drogba underwent surgery last weekend on a broken arm sustained in the friendly against Japan and there were fears the Chelsea striker would be ruled out of the showpiece event. However, the 32-year-old was back in training with a light protective cast and coach Sven-Goran Eriksson believes he could now feature against Portugal on Tuesday, but insists the final decision is up to Drogba himself. "I can't confirm that Didier Drogba will face Portugal, even though the recovery is going well," said the former England coach. "And I have certainly thought about putting in place a plan B. "But the decision to play will depend on Didier himself and the specialists that are following him." The Ivory Coast are seen as one of Africa's best hopes but have been drawn in the 'group of death' that also includes Brazil and North Korea and Drogba is key to their hopes of progressing out of Group G.. The African Player of the Year scored 37 goals in all competitions for Chelsea last season.
