Spurs snubbed as Joe Cole closes in on new four-year Chelsea contract
Joe Cole is close to signing a new four-year deal at Chelsea - all but ending Tottenham's hopes of signing the England midfielder.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, who gave Cole his professional breakthrough when they were both at West Ham United, had hoped to lure him to White Hart Lane.
The 27-year-old's current deal runs out in 2010 and Redknapp had been waiting to see whether Cole was still part of Chelsea's plans after talks had been delayed till this summer.
