Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko has blamed tiredness for his poor displays in the Premiership so far this season.
The Ukraine international represented his country at this summer's World Cup Finals but has been disappointing for Jose Mourinho's side since his big-money move from AC Milan.
"You get high points and low points in your life," Shevchenko said. "In addition, when I arrived I was tired from playing at the World Cup.
"And, right now, I feel really bad. I have been in bed with a high fever that has meant even speaking is painful for me.
"The doctors told me I have picked up a viral infection. I began having problems when I arrived in Kiev for the Ukraine team's get-together.
"I don't yet know if I will miss the game against Italy, as the doctor's won't commit themselves, but my fever has continued to rise."
The 30-year-old has scored only two goals in his ten appearances for Chelsea to date.
