Sheva desperate to down England
Andriy Shevchenko has warmed the AC Milan bench this season but the Ukraine captain is determined to have a say against England on Wednesday.The 32-year-old has made just two Serie A starts since his return to AC Milan from Chelsea in the summer.Shevchenko, currently training with Oleksiy Mykhailychenko's Ukraine for the midweek encounter, said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport: "The national team gives me an opportunity to do what I love doing, which is to play football."But for the national team coach it is not easy to put a player on the pitch who isn't playing."This is a big game for us."Ukraine go into their midweek qualifier five points behind World Cup qualifying Group Six leaders England but with a game in hand."We know that England are one of the strong teams and we hope to be able to do something good at Wembley," he said."We have a young group that can grow."Shevchenko has additional incentive to play, and even score against England."I dream of scoring at Wembley because it would be my 40th goal with the national team," he said."I dream especially of scoring a goal that allows us to qualify."This game is crucial but the one against Croatia [in June] will be the key."I hope to play in another World Cup."Ukraine travel to London unbeaten after two wins and a draw in their World Cup qualifying campaign so far.Shevchenko, who served as Ukraine captain when they reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Germany in 2006, would also like to experience something that he missed out on while a player in London."I have never played in the new [Wembley] stadium, because when Chelsea did, I was out injured," he said."I played twice at the old stadium and it was truly exciting."Shevchenko, meanwhile, is unsure about his future after this season.His loan deal with AC Milan expires in the summer."I don't regret anything," he said. "I needed to refresh myself physically and that's what I've done at Milan."I haven't been used but I have made myself available. When I returned I said that I would have accepted anything."I knew no-one would do me any favours, and I knew that I would be the last striker in the team."I'll behave as a professional until the end, then I'll return to London."I'll live in London but I don't know where football will take me next season.
