Shearer waits on injured Toon trio

Newcastle boss Alan Shearer hopes three key players will be fit for his first game in charge against Chelsea at St James' Park on Saturday. Steven Taylor (ankle) and Sebastien Bassong (groin) are improving and have not yet been ruled out, while Damien Duff (hamstring) was expected to train on Friday. Danny Guthrie is back in contention after an eight-match lay-off with a torn hamstring and strikers Andy Carroll (ankle) and Xisco (fractured toe) have returned to training. But Shola Ameobi is out with an ankle problem and Joey Barton (fractured metatarsal), Mark Viduka and Ignacio Gonzalez (both Achilles) remain on the sidelines.
