Selling Kalou is key to Luiz signing

But Blues don't want to let him go Chelsea's attempts to sign David Luiz for £26m hinges on their committment to keeping Salomon Kalou. The Brazilian centre-back, 23, is Chelsea only serious transfer window target and the Blues are becoming frustrated at not landing the Benfica defender. In essence, the Portugal side want £26m plus Salomon Kalou as they rate Luiz in the £35m bracket. But Chelsea are determined to hang onto the Ivory Coast striker - if only to keep Didier Drogba companion on his international journeys. Chelsea have offered Jerffery Bruma on loan, but Benfica already have cover in that department. They may be tempted to take left-back Patrick Van Aanholt but again Chelsea would only allow a loan deal. So if Chelsea stump up the extra £9 million, then they can have Luiz now - they won't let Kalou or Van Aanholt leave the club permanently. That's the impass facing chief executive Ron Gourlay and chairman Bruce Buck. What do you think? Should Chelsea stump up the extra cash or let Kalou or another player go as well? Have your say in the messageboard now.
