Scolari: Alex wants to stay
20 Dec 2008 - 14:11:31
Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has attempted to draw a line under the Alex transfer saga by claiming the Brazil defender has told him he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Alex's future with the Blues has been called into question twice this month following quotes attributed to the former PSV Eindhoven defender that he wants to leave in January.
But Scolari claims he has held talks with the 26-year-old centre-half and has told him that he wants to stay and fight for a starting place.
Skipper John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho are Scolari's first-choice central defensive partnership.
"When the player comes to my room and tells me he hasn't said anything and I'm happy here, I don't want to go, I believe him," said Scolari.
"He told me he is not thinking of leaving. The club have a contract with all of us and they respect the contract. The players respect the contract with the club."
Meanwhile, Scolari claims he will also not be buying anybody when the transfer window reopens in January.
"(Chief executive) Peter Kenyon has said many times now that we will not sell players and we won't buy players," he added.
"Peter is my boss and if he says that this is the philosophy, it is okay, it is finished."
