Schuster eyes up Ballack

Real Madrid's new coach Bernd Schuster has targeted Chelsea's Germany international midfielder Michael Ballack as his next major signing.

The 30-year-old struggled to make his mark at Stamford Bridge last season following his arrival from Bayern Munich, scoring seven goals in 46 appearances.

However, Schuster still believes his compatriot would be a massive hit at the Bernabeu.

He told German TV station ARD: "With his class, he fits perfectly to Real Madrid. I can very well imagine him playing for my team.

"I thought about Michael before he went to Chelsea. He was linked with Real back then, when it was clear Zinedine Zidane was leaving.

"He would be the link between midfield and attack and would really be perfect."

Real also continue to be linked with Ballack's Blues team-mate, Arjen Robben, despite Chelsea insisting that they do not want to part with the Dutch winger.
