Sawyer to rejoin Shrimpers

Southend United have agreed a deal to re-sign Chelsea midfielder Lee Sawyer on loan until January. Sawyer spent three months on loan with the Shrimpers at the start of last season and scored three goals in 12 appearances. He undertook further loan spells with Coventry and Wycombe, and has yet to make his first-team debut for Chelsea. The 19-year-old has now been allowed to return to Roots Hall for the next six months, much to the delight of Southend boss Steve Tilson. "I'm over the moon with bringing Lee back to the club," Tilson told the club's official website. "He's an exciting young player who we know all about and I am sure supporters will be as delighted as we are with the news. "He is about a week behind the rest of the squad in terms of fitness and so as to get him up to speed as soon as possible Chelsea have allowed him to play tonight at Canvey Island whilst all the paperwork is completed."
