Young Chelsea midfielder Lee Sawyer has spoken of his joy at rejoining Southend for a second loan spell. The 19-year-old midfielder spent three months at Roots Hall last year, making 12 appearances, and is back on the coast after agreeing to join the Shrimpers until January. Sawyer also had spells at Coventry and Wycombe last season, but has revealed it was Southend where he was happiest and most eager to return. "When I left before, I was really disappointed as I was enjoying my football," Sawyer told the Echo. "I had a great time here and I wanted to stay but that wasn't possible, I'm glad to be back now. The spell at Southend was the most successful and I played my best football. "Having been here before it makes things so much easier as I already know everyone and I am really happy to be back. Now I can't wait for the season to get started."
