Russia winger Zhirkov ready to seal £18million Chelsea deal

Yuri Zhirkov last night flew into London to finalise his £18million move from CSKA Moscow to Chelsea. The Russia winger is due a medical today ahead of signing an £80,000-a-week deal until 2012 with the option of a fourth season. After signing, Zhirkov and wife Inna expect to return to Moscow. Speaking at the city's Domodedovo airport before flying to London, he said: 'I always dreamed of playing in a top club. It would have been inexcusable to let this opportunity pass.' Zhirkov, Chelsea's third new recruit following free agents Daniel Sturridge, the striker signed from Manchester City, and the former Middlesbrough goalkeeper Ross Turnbull, will be expected to fly with his new team-mates to a pre-season tour in the United States on July 18.
