Royals capture Cummings

Reading have confirmed the signing of defender Shaun Cummings from Chelsea on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Cummings had been in the middle of a month-long loan at West Brom, but has cut his stay at the Hawthorns short to join Championship rivals Reading. The 20-year-old worked with Royals boss Brendan Rodgers at Chelsea and admits he could not turn down a permanent move to the Madejski Stadium. "It's great to sign, I feel fantastic," Cummings told the club's official website. "This is a great opportunity for me, I can settle for three years and I am working with Brendan again. "We know how each other works and there is a good connection so I couldn't say no." Rodgers is happy with the signing and is hoping Cummings can have a similar impact to Ryan Bertrand, who is currently on loan at Reading from Chelsea. "Shaun is a modern-day full-back, a good defender who wants to go forward and is very athletic," said Rodgers. "I'm excited to have him, I know him well, he has all the characteristics we want and I am sure he will be very successful. He's one for now and for the future as well. "He worked very closely with me at Chelsea, he developed there and then had a really successful time out on loan with the MK Dons last season. "Supporters may have seen him line up for West Brom already this year so he has shown his credentials and ability to compete at the top end of this league. He's very similar to Ryan Bertrand on the opposite side."
