Rooney to reject Chelsea; Lukaku/Cavani likely in summer swap deal

As the Wayne Rooney saga seems to be turning in favour of him remaining at Old Trafford, Chelsea have firmly set their sights on PSG striker Edinson Cavani. The potential move will not take place until the summer, but will involve the sale of Romelu Lukaku, who is now being tipped to move to Paris rather than remain on Merseyside with Everton.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made his intentions clear that the 20-year old Belgian striker is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and he will be looking for around £23m from his sale, which may be an excessive amount for his current side Everton to pay.

Cavani has made it clear that he is unsettled with life at the Parc des Princes, believing the French League is not competitive enough for his talent. Even though the 26 year old Uruguayan has scored 20 goals in 29 appearances for PSG this season, a move to the Premier League will provide him with a much sterner test of his abilities. Looking at the success of his fellow countryman Luis Suarez at Liverpool may also play an important role in his decision to move to London.

There is no doubting that priority number one for Mourinho this summer is the acquisition of a world class striker. Cavani seems like the perfect option to fill this role, although as always, there are no guarantees in football, so we will just wait and see how this materializes.
