Ronaldo, Van der Sar and Vidic vying for UEFA's Club Footballer of the Year

Three of Manchester United's European Cup final team are among six Premier League players included in the list of nominees for UEFA's Club Footballer of the Year. The winner will be presented at a special awards ceremony in Monte Carlo next week. The three players that went all the way to last season's Champions League final, where United lost to Barcelona in Rome, are goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, defender NemanjaVidic and forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who has since joined Real Madrid. Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech and defender John Terry, and Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard were also nominated. Six members of Barcelona's triumphant team are also in the line-up of nominees. Goalkeeper Victor Valdes, defender Gerard Pique, midfielders Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta and forwards Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o, now with Inter Milan, are named on the list. The players were proposed by the coaches of the 16 teams that reached the knockout stages of the competition.
