Romelu Lukaku has declared he is not interested in a return to Chelsea to sit on the bench – and would even welcome a second season at West Brom, according to the Daily Express.
Chelsea have the option to recall him to Stamford Bridge next month. But Lukaku, an £18million signing from Anderlecht last year, is willing to extend his education under Steve Clarke into next season.
Lukaku said: “They are doing well in the league so I don’t think they need me back.
“I know what is going on. For me, it is a one-year loan. Then, hopefully, it may be one year again because I need to play as much as I can in the next two years.”
“I have a manager [Clarke] who wanted me from the beginning of the season and I’ve a great rapport with him. It’s really good to have a manager that is challenging me mentally.”
Lukaku was signed under Andre Villas-Boas, but failed to make an impact in his short time at Chelsea. Di Matteo sent the burly young forward on a season-long loan to West Brom, and Rafa Benitez has been rumoured to be interested in bringing back the young Belgian.
