Robben future in doubt
11 Jul 2007 - 07:33:22
Dutch winger Arjen Robben has cast doubt on his Chelsea future after admitting talks over a new contract are not going to plan.
The 23-year-old still has two years remaining on his existing deal but has continually been linked with a move to Real Madrid after struggling to hold down a starting place last season.
The £13.5million arrival of France international and fellow left winger Florent Malouda from Lyon has cast further doubt on Robben's Stamford Bridge future and the player himself has done little to dampen speculation linking him with an exit.
Robben, who coach Jose Mourinho is keen to keep at the club, is currently on Chelsea's pre-season tour to the US but has revealed he is not close to putting pen to paper on a new deal.
"We will see what the future brings," he told BBC Five Live.
"I haven't signed a new contract and it hasn't gone really well."
Robben has also revealed he is flattered to be linked with Real Madrid with the Spanish club's president Ramon Calderon recently revealing his admiration for the former PSV Eindhoven wideman.
"I think for any individual player it's good when there's interest from any big club in the world," he added.
"It just shows that you're a good player and I always see that as a compliment.
"It was the same when I was at PSV in Holland before I went to Chelsea.
"There were a lot of clubs interested in me but it's just good for the confidence."
