Redknapp rues a Luka Modric-shaped hole in his Tottenham side

Harry Redknapp admits his side are missing a bit of Luka Modric magic. The Tottenham Hotspur boss is having to re-think his tactics for the trip to Chelsea on Sunday after seeing his side beaten 3-1 by champions Manchester United at the weekend. Modric was a helpless observer at White Hart Lane, the Croatia international wearing a protective boot on his right foot because of a fractured fibula he suffered against Birmingham two weeks ago. His compatriot Niko Kranjcar, signed from Portsmouth earlier this month, could step into the breach against the Blues. 'I'm not saying we would have won the game if Modric had played but he is fantastic for us,' said Redknapp. 'We do miss him. We finished the Birmingham game with Robbie (Keane) on the left, but I wouldn't see myself going to Chelsea and playing that way again.' After being tamed by a United side reduced to 10-men because of Paul Scholes' dismissal, Spurs may be tempted to deploy a more compact midfield against the early-season table-toppers. Striker Peter Crouch agrees that the side find it hard to replace their 24-year-old playmaker, who is expected to be out for at least another month. 'It's difficult without Luka,' said the England international. 'He's such a clever player and can keep the ball so well, so of course we're going to miss him, but we've still got great quality.'
