All smiles: Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich's wealth increased by a staggering 22 per cent last year - despite the world being in a global recession. The Russian businessman, who bought Chelsea in 2003, is now estimated to be worth a fortune of £10.8billion. But Abramovich is still the third richest man in Russia behind steel magnate Vladimir Lisin and Mikhail Prokhorov, last year's number one, according to one finance magazine. Nonetheless, the 43-year-old still wrote off 340m in debts at Chelsea last year, as his companies soared. Abramovich's team has also been performing on the pitch as Chelsea are currently top the Barclays Premier League table.
