Premier League trophy already at Stamford Bridge?

In a rather bizarre yet strangely justified occurrence, it appears The FA have taken the liberty of handing the trophy to Chelsea even before it is officially won. The Blues can seal the title with a win against Crystal Palace on Sunday but any other result would ensure that the race continues.

According to reports, the trophy was only supposed to be viewed by a BBC crew in preparation for Sunday’s match possibly for a match build-up program. Chelsea Football Club insist that this viewing was restricted only to this camera crew yet members of a Stadium Tour group got lucky enough to see the coveted silverware despite the futile attempts of a guard to stop this from happening.

Jose Mourinho has on several occasions now insisted that his players and indeed the fans not take the remaining games for granted and only consider the title won when it is actually won. There is no reason why Crystal Palace will not be able to avoid defeat against Chelsea given the leaders’ laboured form of late. It would be a great way to end the season for them and a worthwhile feather in Alan Pardew’s cap.

On the who, one is left to wonder whether Stamford Bridge security is good enough to keep the trophy safe if they cannot hide it from a group of 20 civilians or if the powers that be at Chelsea are sure of victory on Sunday and want to start the party early.
