Prem trio on FIFA shortlist

Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney are on a 30-man shortlist for FIFA's World Player of the Year award.

Lampard was runner-up to Barcelona and Brazil ace Ronaldinho last year and the Chelsea midfielder is just one of 12 Premiership representatives in contention for the award.

Arsenal's Thierry Henry is the current favourite for the award, which will be handed out at a special ceremony in Zurich on December 18.

The France international is expected to face stiff competition from Italy's World Cup winning skipper Fabio Cannavaro.

The shortlist of 30 players will now be presented to the coaches and captains of all national teams who will cast their votes.

Other Premiership players on the shortlist are Michael Ballack, Cristiano Ronaldo, Petr Cech, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Jens Lehmann, Tomas Rosicky and Andriy Shevchenko.
