Pompey line up ex-Chelsea boss Grant to succeed Adams at Fratton Park

Former Chelsea [LNB]boss Avram Grant is being lined up to take over as Portsmouth [LNB]manager if Tony Adams does not turn around the club's fortunes.[LNB]Pompey are just a point above the relegation zone after a run of eight games without a win - and their grip on the FA Cup was ended by Championship Swansea.[LNB] The transfer window by numbers: The biggest deals, the best bargains and who spent what[LNB]Middlesbrough block Gary O'Neil's return to Portsmouth[LNB]PORTSMOUTH FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE WEB[LNB][LNB]The slump has prompted owner Sacha Gaydamak  - who wants to sell the club - to meet with executive chairman Peter Storrie to discuss the likelihood of his good friend Grant, a former Fratton Park director of football, taking control of team affairs.[LNB] How things were: The Portsmouth management team in 2006 was (from the left) Joe Jordan, Harry Redknapp, Avram Grant and Tony Adams[LNB] But Adams, who has been in charge less than four months, has been given cash to keep Pompey in the top flight and yesterday signed Greece duo Angelos Basinas and Theofanis Gekas.[LNB] Basinas, 33, has joined from AEK Athens on an 18-month deal and the 97-cap midfielder will link up with Gekas, snapped up from Bayer Leverkusen.[LNB]Reports in The Sun suggest Adams only has three games to save his job, starting this weekend at home to Liverpool[LNB], then trips to fellow strugglers Manchester City[LNB]and Stoke[LNB].[LNB]Grant has been out of work since guiding Chelsea to the runners-up spot in the Champions League, Premier League and Carling Cup last season.[LNB] [LNB] [LNB]
