Poll Result - Drogba on course for Golden Boot

30 November 2009 10:40

After a superb performance to help brush aside Arsenal at the weekend, Chelsea's Didier Drogba has emerged as football.co.uk's favourite for the domestic golden boot this season.

Twenty seven per cent of our readers believe the Ivorian will out-gun everyone this year, possibly on his way to Premier League glory with the West London side.

After returning from a slight injury, the former Marseille striker picked up where he had left off by grabbing a brace at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.

He is currently joint top scorer with Tottenham Hotspur's Jermain Defoe and the West London side are looking strong for the title so far.

However, Drogba will more than likely miss the majority of January as he will compete in the African Cup of Nations, with Ivory Coast one of the strongest sides in the competition.

Drogba just edged out Fernando Torres who, despite Liverpool's poor start to the season and injury problems, came in second place in our recent poll.

Defoe's five goal haul does not look to have helped his cause much as he came in fourth, just behind Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.

Rounding off the poll, Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas and Sunderland's Darren Bent received the least votes.

Look out for next week's poll when we ask who gets your vote for the Balon d'Or.
