Police probe Mikel move

Norwegian police have confirmed that they are investigating John Obi Mikel's controversial transfer to Chelsea.

The 19-year-old Nigerian moved to Stamford Bridge from Lyn Oslo last summer despite having previously agreed to sign for Manchester United.

The confusion was eventually resolved when a financial deal was agreed between the two Premiership sides to allow him to join Chelsea.

But Norwegian officers are now looking at claims of contract forgery, although Chelsea or United are not involved in the investigation.

"The case is about document forgery and that is serious," said Oslo police attorney Paal Hernaes.

"Mikel is just a witness in the case."

A spokesman for Lyn Oslo told The Guardian: "We know there have been police investigations, but we haven't heard anything from the police and, as far as we are concerned, the matter has nothing more to do with us.

"It was (previous sporting director) Morgan Andersen who dealt with it and he has now left the club."
