Player of the Day: Eden Hazard - Messi in the making

12 February 2014 13:13

Mourniho believes that Eden Hazard is a talent deserving of awards and accolades he so far has not received, that his pockets are empty unjustly given his performances this year. There is no doubting the talent and this month perhaps the fans will have their say and crown the player the FTBPro Fan Player of the Month and fill his pockets for the first time this season.

“Maybe with the hat-trick he has the chance to win one day [to be awarded] the player of the month,” said Mourinho. “Because he never gets that. I would like my guy to win it once, so please do something. Help me.”

Well perhaps there are other candidates but it’s difficult to look beyond the young Belgium starlet for February. Mourinho went on to lavish praise on Hazard after his Hat-Trick:

“I think a team is made of 11 guys, but obviously he is special,” said the manager of Hazard. “I think in this moment he’s the best young player in the world.”

The 23-year-old started his career at French Ligue One side Lille where he made 147 senior appearances and scored 36 times whilst building a reputation as one of Europe’s best young talents. After much speculation regarding his transfer availability and with several of Europe’s top clubs being interested in his services, on the 4th June 2012 Chelsea confirmed that they had signed the player for a reported £32million.

Hazard has quickly adapted to playing in the Premier League and so far in 2013/14 season Hazard has a pass success rate of 83.6% , has scored an impressive 14 times across all competitions and made 5 assists. Hazard is a versatile midfielder, able to play from left to right but has an attacking intent similar to his team mate Frank lampard.

In an interview with L'Equipe Hazard reveals that winning trophies is what is missing and what separates him from greatness:

“I'm much younger than them. They have won things that I haven't,' he said. 'But I'm as good as they were at my age. If I want to be like them I need to win trophies”

He added: “I don't care what other people think about me, frankly. Ronaldo and Messi, the two best players in the world, are loved and hated. That's the way it is.”
